A touch of romance
“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way – things I had no words for.” Georgia O'Keeffe
Truly, color can evoke many emotions. This month, I am inspired by soft pinks, candlelight, warm glows to remind me to take the time to see the softness in the world around me. I am reminded of romance and warmth, and the love that surrounds me everyday—just in time for Valentine’s Day.
I was able to visit one of my favorite art galleries recently, Walker Fine Art, and was moved by the amazing large-scale floral paintings by Chloe Hedden. It put me in the mood for Valentine’s Day, and with the many shades of pink throughout the gallery, it was sophisticated and beautiful and calming all at once.
Nature is often the muse for a color palette, and the stunning pink and orange sunsets I’ve been seeing most nights remind me to mix these colors, similar to Merida’s fun flat-weave rugs made with natural fibers. The one that really caught my eye is the color grapefruit—how perfect is that!
. And while we’ve been focusing on bold colors, I love this soft pink for walls; just adding a touch of pink to a room gives it an off-beat vintage feel—it reminds me of a kinder, gentler era. Luckily, it’s easy for me to bring a pop of pink into any room with the Lafco candles—the pink glass is perfect for this time of year.
Of course, anything in Paris brings back feelings of romance, this photo of the Eiffel Tower set in the morning sun, just looking at the photo I feel transported and calm.
So although February can be harsh, cold and snowy, I am focusing on the romance and softer side of this month. I hope I’ve inspired you too, to take a look around you and see the beauty that surrounds us daily.
