The Old World called to senior designer Marilyn Smith Heaney recently. She set off for adventure and inspiration in the hills of Italy – and she found it. We’re lucky that she shared her photos with us so we can glimpse into her designer aesthetic.
Somehow the Italians can make a fruit display and men’s shoe store into a work of art. Everything is fresh, in season, bursting with color and texture.
Travel guru Rick Steves declared that Orvieto is what an Italian hill town should be. Agreed! With a colorful cathedral, quiet, traffic-free streets and sumptuous wine, the visit in Orvieto was amazingly beautiful.
And – this is what life is really about. Sharing a glass of wine with family (pictured here are Marilyn, her sister and niece); enjoying homemade gelato at a centuries-old patio under the Tuscan sun.
Taking a break from the every day life is always welcome. But as a designer, it’s impossible to leave your eye for design behind – and who would want to with all the world has to offer..
