Christmas Reds &
December Whites
It’s chilly outside, so nestle inside by the fireplace and bring the season home.
I am inspired by all that this season means to me: Christmas, a long winter’s night, flickering firelight, deep fluffy snow and joy on earth…. After all, tis the season for parties, gatherings, friends, traditions and sharing many laughs.
This time of year can make my heart as a designer stutter: we decorate our homes for the holidays, using colors that are reserved for this season. I love the bright reds in conjunction with glittery silvers, glowing yellows and, of course, with deep fir greens. We use ribbons and bows, cranberries and sparkle, décor that is rarely part of our daily lives.
More than being a season to make homes into cozy spaces, it’s a time when I delve into family traditions—my family and I set aside a day to hike deep into the woods to find the perfect-for-us tree. This year as we tromped through the snow and absolutely every tree looked like the perfect tree to me. Luckily my husband and kids found just the one for our house. A lot of laughter, a snowball fight and hot cocoa later, we were home, pulling out our ornaments and reminiscing about past years.
Although Christmas can be an incredibly busy time (it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle), I carve out time to take in the glory of the season. I try to take a few moments every day to be thankful for all that I have and remember the beauty that surrounds me.
This month's inspiration is brought to you by Slifer Designs' President Yvonne Jacobs. A Colorado native, she loves the winter and all that comes with it and incorporates natural elements into what she designs.
