Mustard and Teal: A Bold Marriage of Color

The days are shorter, the light is fading and with more time spent indoors, it’s the perfect time to try out vibrant new color combinations. I am loving mustard and teal right now. Mustard hasn’t been given its due – it’s so warm and inviting. The hue, reminiscent of our golden aspens, makes me want to take a hike amongst the fallen leaves that have peppered the trails… or curl up inside with a cup of tea and good book.

Beyond the colors just striking me just the right way, I love that they are very gender neutral. As a mother to a boy and girl, I like it when I can find colors that work for either sex. The colors together, while eclectic, are bold without being over the top, and it’s easy to make the look either feminine or masculine.

I love how teal and mustard together create a bold, dramatic statement, whether on a large wall, as a focus in a room or through small bursts throughout the house. The colors are bold but so versatile and work in multiple styles – modern chic, mid-century modern, modern farmhouse and even classic.

Not everyone is quite ready to big and bold, but there are still plenty of ways to use punches of color through smaller accents in your accessories and pillows, while keeping the walls or larger pieces of furniture neutral. The beauty of this is how easy it is to change the colors up. Or after having some brightly hued accessories, you might just decide to go for it and create a chevron-patterned bursting wall of color.

As long as you love the color, it will work in your house. I dare you – try something different.
