It’s Reigning Marsala

I’m feeling pretty smug today. I found out Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2015 is Marsala. How to define a color? We’ll leave that to the Pantone experts: “a naturally robust and earthy” color. It’s not red or maroon, it’s not brick or rust.

It’s a color that just might look good on everyone – those Pantone folks know what they are talking about.

Me? I’m feeling smug because I have a Marsala accent wall in our bedroom with a throw rug that highlights the color. I was growing tired of the wall because it’s been a few years, honestly, but now that I know it’s ‘in’, I am keeping it.

Whereas I find marsala wine a bit too sweet, the color is not so sweet – it’s perfect for the holidays, a punch of color, a bit of bold.

It can be saucy (no marsala-sauce pun intended) without being over the top. And, as a matter of fact, our design team just pitched a project imbued with marsala. Bursts of color to add warmth and interest – it’s not going to take over the design.

If you’re not ready to fully commit, find a bold marsala lipstick, glossy nails or scarf. Try a couple of pillows or a soft throw. Revel in the color and know that you are in the know!
